To catch the potato thief
I slept but I kept one eye open
I caught her, but I came to grief
and she said Please dont let this happen
her buddies ran, brilliant fled
and up the sky went winding
I held her hand, got the nipple red
although her breast was blinding
I shouted high, burnt my lips
a fiery joy was groaning
we scraped the sky when we ground our hips
and got a starchild from our grinding
Ill give back those potatoes
but dont make me live on earth
Ill give em back, sweetie
for our son who died at birth
Lumina
a son is dead
for light years
youre seeing red . . .
my lover she did mother me
but for her buddy stars kept pining
when I covered her I think I smothered her
and kept her light from shining
when she so tame and darker grew
then up the sky went scorching
my condor came and after flew
for centuries the searching
but then we dove into the lake of time
and swam out new as yearlings
my condor knew the sparkle sign
and there we found my darling
but I forgot the potatoes
youre more than theyre ever worth
s all right, I can get my own potatoes
cause I know the road to earth
Lumina
you had to choose
for light years
now you got the blues . . .
one day she left for good and I fell to earth
and all the way I cried
in came no food, out came no word
so starstruck that I died
they might have told us from the start
its against some cosmic mandate
cause he grows old and you get dark
you know the heavens will not stand it
now to find the way she travels far
she tries but always fails
and you can say shes a shooting star
you can see her crazy trail
to get those potatoes
a never-ending search
cant get those potatoes
cause they rubbed out the road to earth
Lumina
warm us a while
for light years
and dark miles . . .
