When they talked of waking once again
the silent old man stood
and left before anyone of them
until the day he stayed
And Who are you asked one of them
he said, I'm not a man
I talked of waking long ago
and I stood where you now stand
Are you free from what comes after
when you wake and truly see?
When I said Yes I went to sleep
I was trapped in a fox's body
Five hundred winters as a fox
been yearning to be free
of consequence's chain - - what's the
answer? Please tell me!
When I awake am I truly free
of consequence's chain?
when I said I see us as we are
I was a man, not a fox again
So I want to thank each one of you
forever waking me
'Cause now I see us as we are
and I'm free of the fox's body
Now bury him as one of you
but they said No one has died
'til over near the mountain
they found a fox's hide
So they buried him as one of them
but I wonder in this tune
what if he had answered
correctly every time?
I'm free of his body . . .
